OUR STORY
The Antidote brand was founded in 2019 with the intention of raising money to support vital, life-changing research into the causes and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Our founder, Isabella, designed our t-shirts and set up the brand in her first year at Edinburgh University, hoping to raise awareness and money, with 100% of the profits being donated to the cause. Initially funded out-of-pocket, the project was born of a desire to end the suffering caused by Alzheimer’s for both those diagnosed with the disease, and their loved ones, as seen first-hand in her best friend's family. Over the past two years, the brand has grown, and allowed us to expand to a wider range and network, constantly exploring new options for raising money.
All of our team are so proud of this project and the amazing cause it supports.
If you, like us, believe in eradicating this debilitating disease, shop with us today and help find the antidote to Alzheimer’s.
THE STORY BEHIND OUR ETHOS: Zoe's story
In 2017 my mum was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease at the age of 52. She had so much of her life still ahead of her, but she now lives in a reality that is drastically different from that of most people’s her age. She is intelligent, witty and incredibly loving, but Alzheimer's is an obstacle that can't be overcome. It is part of our life as a family, and it is painful, scary and extremely challenging. I was only 16 when she was diagnosed and had to learn very quickly how to care for someone who my whole life had cared for me. Even though she is slowly fading away, I cherish every moment I have with her and am grateful to be able to remember for the both of us how much we love one another.
Raising money is the only way we can find a cure for this terrible illness, and offer support to those suffering from a disease that affects so many people. One of the things that keeps me and my family fighting is knowing that one day there might be a way to stop this from happening to anyone ever again.
WHAT IS ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE?
Dementia, most commonly heard of, is an umbrella term for any illness that inhibits the normal function of the brain. Alzheimer’s is just one type of dementia, but one of the most common, affecting an estimated 1 in 14 people over the age of 65. Common symptoms include memory loss, confusion, regularly misplacing items, low mood and problems communicating with others.
There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s. Whilst there are some medicines that can help by slowing down its progression and making day-to-day life easier, once someone has developed dementia, they will have it for the rest of their lives.
